Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) is a system that protects merchandise from theft. It is typically used to identify items as they pass through a protected area. This identification is used to alert someone of the unauthorized removal of items from a store, library, or data center. Tags can be deactivated or detached when the items are purchased. Items that have not be deactivated or detached can sound an alarm when someone walks through the exit doors.
